We have had some customers periodically contact us, saying that Impel will lose all of their tasks at some interval (e.g. every week, every few days, etc.).  We have researched this issue but have so far been unable to determine the cause and we have not seen this issue on any of our test devices.

If you have this issue please contact us!  It is very important that we capture all of the details of your device, your tasks, and the exact situations where this task loss occurs. Without your assistance we will continue to look for the issue, but it will be a much slower and more painful fixing process.

Thanks for your help and patience.

Android Market customers can now grab the newest version of Impel: version 1.1.1. This release includes several fixes for Android 4.x (Ice Cream Sandwich or ICS) devices as well as some important fixes and improvements for GPS location services and other reported items.

You can read all about this version in the release notes posted to the support forum, or go grab or update your own copy from the Android Market. We think you’ll like it.

Amazon Appstore customers are in for the now-customary wait while this version makes its way through the approval process. Hopefully it won’t be too long before we have that version updated as well.

If you have feedback about this release or any of the Impel app versions let us know, and we hope you continue to use and enjoy the product.

For those folks who like to live the mobile app life on the bleeding edge, we have a new version of Impel to try: 1.1.1 Preview.

This release is all about fixing issues we found with Android 4.x, the Galaxy Nexus UI changes and a camera crash, location force closes and logging. There are not any new features in this version but there is good improvements for just about everyone. Visit our Beta Forum page for details.

And sorry Amazon Appstore customers, due to the way Amazon has us make the app for their store we can’t offer you a beta release. If this limitation ever changes we will be sure to let you know.

Impel with Samsung Galaxy Nexus

We now have our hands on a brand new Samsung Galaxy Nexus running Android 4.0.2 Ice Cream Sandwich and we’re happy to say that Impel appears to run just fine with it all.

There have been reports of some popular apps that don’t work right or force close on Android 4.0 devices, but thanks to some careful planning on our part Impel is ready to go when you move up to the latest version of the Android OS.  Impel runs buttery smooth on the new OS and it seems that all of the major features like hardware enable and disable, GPS locations, sounds, vibration and the like have made the upgrade without incident.

We have seen an issue where the swipe-to-camera gesture may cause Impel to close unexpectedly, so we are going to look at that. If you run across anything please let us know in the support forum.  Unlike other apps on Android, Impel needs to access many different parts of a device that are completely unavailable in the emulator, so we are seeing Android 4.0 ICS at the same time as many of you.  This means that there could be some things that work great and other things that don’t, but we’ll work quickly to find and fix the things that pop up.

In the meantime, keep on using Impel and let us know what you think about it.

We have been working hard to improve Impel for a while now but we had neglected the product web site in the process. That oversight has been corrected and an updated and much more device-friendly site is now available for your use:

All of the content should now be visible and easy to navigate from either a desktop web browser or your mobile device browser. Take a look around and let us know what you think.

It took a lot longer than we had wanted, but finally Amazon Appstore customers have access to the same features, fixes and stability as the rest of our Impel folks have had. The list of changes is quite long but it is well worth it to go get or upgrade your copy on the Appstore today.

Great news Amazon Appstore customers: Impel Plus has been updated to 1.0.10. You can grab the update now from the Amazon Appstore app.

This release was a necessary fix for the GPS proximity feature to enable the maps view. Unfortunately, due to some Amazon restrictions, this release has a new application signature and will force the uninstallation of the existing version of Impel Plus. This also means that any tasks you’ve created will be lost.

We had a long discussion about this change and the impact it would have on customers and decided it was necessary to make this change now to fix the maps issue vs keeping old tasks and having non-working GPS functions. We’re sorry about the inconvenience but we believe this is the last time we will have to make such a change for Amazon customers.

If you are a Android Market customer this issue doesn’t impact you and your current Impel version is still at 1.0.9.
