We now have our hands on a brand new Samsung Galaxy Nexus running Android 4.0.2 Ice Cream Sandwich and we’re happy to say that Impel appears to run just fine with it all.
There have been reports of some popular apps that don’t work right or force close on Android 4.0 devices, but thanks to some careful planning on our part Impel is ready to go when you move up to the latest version of the Android OS. Impel runs buttery smooth on the new OS and it seems that all of the major features like hardware enable and disable, GPS locations, sounds, vibration and the like have made the upgrade without incident.
We have seen an issue where the swipe-to-camera gesture may cause Impel to close unexpectedly, so we are going to look at that. If you run across anything please let us know in the support forum. Unlike other apps on Android, Impel needs to access many different parts of a device that are completely unavailable in the emulator, so we are seeing Android 4.0 ICS at the same time as many of you. This means that there could be some things that work great and other things that don’t, but we’ll work quickly to find and fix the things that pop up.
In the meantime, keep on using Impel and let us know what you think about it.
